Life Skills and Occupational Middle - High School Classroom

This classroom setting is for middle/high school students who are non-verbal, partially verbal, or who have mastered the fundamentals of language, but still need direct instruction to increase pragmatic-based communication and receptive/expressive language. Students in this classroom will also be receiving individualized one-on-one and small group instruction. A transitional life skills curriculum will be implemented to begin introducing and reinforcing the critical domains for adult living. Students will become familiar with a completely independent work task box system that focuses on multiple areas including math, letter identification, vocational skills, assembly and/or packaging skills, fine motor practice and matching/sorting tasks. The tasks are individualized for each students' goals and provide the highly structured routine the students need to be successful and build confidence. Our life skills and occupational program classroom has a fully functinal kitchen where the students learn to make their own lunch daily and cook from visual recipes as a group! In addition to vocational skills, students practice social interaction and daily living skills from laudry sorting to sweeping.

Our life skills class in Raleigh, NC is located at 559 Jones Franklin Rd. - 164 A.
